28 Knots is a research and content company focused on AI, markets and political economy as viewed through geography, sovereignty and institutions.
28 Knots founder Sharif Sakr is a London-based researcher, writer and advisor whose career has moved between journalism, technology, investing and quantitative finance — from the BBC newsroom to the semiconductor industry, and from Oxford's business school to the boardroom of a quant trading firm.
He spent eight years as a broadcast journalist at BBC News, where he created and presented The Technology of Business, a weekly international technology report for BBC World TV. He later moved into specialist technology journalism at Engadget, where he built the publication's European editorial team and covered the semiconductor industry as a dedicated beat.
Since leaving journalism, Sharif has worked at the intersection of technology, markets and education. He was a founding team member at GameBench, a compute benchmarking company whose clients have included EA, Scopely and Ubisoft, alongside major mobile device and semiconductor companies.
He subsequently became Managing Partner of two investment funds focused on AI, fintech and digital-asset infrastructure, including tokenised real-world assets and digital-asset exchanges.
Today, alongside research, content and marketing projects undertaken through 28 Knots Ltd, Sharif focuses on his own work in AI and quantitative trading. He is VP of Strategic Marketing at quant trading firm T-Digital and has been an Industry Advisor at Oxford's Saïd Business School since 2017, where he coaches MBA students in digital product management and go-to-market strategy.
Sharif holds a BA (Hons) in Human Sciences from St. John's College, Oxford.
